Washington, DC – The following is a statement from Vanessa Cárdenas, Executive Director of America’s Voice, reacting to today’s announcement of a new, legal immigration pathway for Ecuadorians by the Biden Administration:

“We welcome the Biden administration’s continued efforts to put in place an orderly and systematic vetting process for immigrants who want to come to the U.S. with a legal visa rather than exploited by a smuggler. Today’s announcement for Ecuador is the latest of a series of measures by the administration to reduce pressure on the border, reunify families and advance legal solutions to migration challenges.

While there is no silver bullet to alleviate border pressures until bi-partisan Congressional legislation is finally achieved, the new announcement is a better way to combat the border chaos that Republicans purport to care about than any GOP alternative vision centered on border walls, ending asylum, and relentless political disinformation.

The announcement, and its underlying approach, draws a sharp contrast with Republicans, who continue to oppose efforts to facilitate legal immigration and alleviate pressure on the border. In fact, Republicans – through the courts and in Congress – have been seeking to block or dismantle the new legal pathways that are meant to bring order and are showing promise in the context of a broken system that Republicans refuse to help modernize.”
