Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA), NYC Department of Transportation (DOT), and Consulate General of Mexico Unveil ‘Catrina Monumental Atlixquense’ and ‘Las Cinco Catrinas Monumentales’ in Times Square to Kick Off Day of the Dead Festivities

New York City, October 28, 2023 – The Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA) Commissioner Manuel Castro, NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez, and Consul General of Mexico Jorge Islas will join Mi Casa es Puebla to reveal the stunning ‘Catrina Monumental Atlixquense’ and ‘Las Cinco Catrinas Monumentales’ in Times Square. This event marks the official commencement of the Day of the Dead festivities in New York City, set to take place until November 2nd, 2023.

Day of the Dead is a widely celebrated holiday that allows people to remember their deceased loved ones and honor their memory. The unveiling of the ‘Catrina Monumental Atlixquense’ and ‘Las Cinco Catrinas Monumentales’ serves as a symbolic representation of this cultural tradition, bringing the spirit of this Mexican holiday to the heart of New York City.
