NYC Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs – Virtual Presentation: A Demographic Snapshot of NYC’s Asian and Pacific Islander (API) Immigrant Population

This virtual presentation features key findings from MOIA’s new demographic analysis of the city’s Asian and Pacific Islander (API) immigration population. View the report at: https://on.nyc.gov/APIReport.

This report comes at a moment when the City is celebrating #ImmigrantHeritageMonth while supporting community members and fighting incidents of bias and discrimination citywide.

The report reflects the urgency of better understanding our API communities as we work towards a more equitable COVID-19 recovery for all. It provides critical information about the growth of API immigrant ethnic groups, languages spoken within the community, occupations, citizenship, and poverty rates. It also highlights digital resources to address xenophobia and anti-Asian hate available at http://nyc.gov/stopasianhate.

The report finds: the API community is not a monolith; there are many variances in the social, economic, and demographic characteristics between the diverse ethnic groups within the community.
